My name is Mei-Ling Lam. Mei-Ling means beautiful and delicate. It characterizes me to a tee! Let me tell you a little bit about myself… I am from Clinton, a tiny town in central Maine, but spent much of my childhood in Newport, another small town in mid-Maine where my parents owned and operated a Chinese restaurant for 25 years. My father is Chinese and my mother is French/Caucasian. I have an older sister and an older brother whom I am very close to and nephews and nieces that I enjoy spoiling every chance I get. I live in Atlanta, Ga., now, but my small town roots run deep and I return to Maine every chance I get. Because I was the baby I was quite spoiled- I admit it– not only by my own family members, but also by the staff at the restaurant where I spent so much of my childhood. My family was and continues to be very hard working. The restaurant parking lot was my playground and I spent a lot of time hanging out in the very best beauty salon that was located next door. I would not have traded my playground for anything. I began competing in pageants when I was 5 years old. At 16 I won Miss Maine Teen USA and competed in the Miss Teen USA pageant in South Padre Island, Texas. Playboy was initiated to me by a long time photography friend Stewart Smith. I hired him to take some professional photos that were sent into Playboy… I was blessed enough to receive and email regarding their interests. My first time meeting Hugh Hefner was when I was flown out to LA to do my first test shoot. The day I arrived, I was picked up at LAX and brought to the Playboy Mansion. The moment I arrived I met another woman who was there test shooting. We were brought into the mansion where we waited for Mr. Hefner to come down. I was anticipating his steps down the long stair case. At that moment I just felt excited. Once he arrived he introduced himself to each of us…

The first thing he said to me was, “you’re from Maine right?” I replied with, “Yes Sir.” Mr. Hefner said, “you’re getting quite the snow up there aren’t you?” Of course I reply with, “Yes, we are. So much that I almost didn’t make it here because of the weather.” At that moment my first impression of Hugh Hefner was that he is a sweet gentlemen. Very kind and polite. Months later and I still have that same impression! I had so much fun doing my Playboy shoots! My favorite, but most embarrassing story from one of the shoots was when the staff had to use a clamp to sort of hold on a bra I was modeling because there were not any bras on hand that were my size. Seems I’m a bit smaller on top than some of the other playmates. We all laughed ;) I have been so fortunate to have traveled to many places, including Paris, London and China. On a more personal note, there is nothing that makes me happier than curling up at home in my sweats, cooking a great meal and watching movies. I know it may be unusual, but my two favorite foods are white rice and fried chicken. Every Sunday after church, I eat fried chicken. I was so blessed to have been raised by a true gentleman, my father, who passed away a week before my 18th birthday. I used to dance competitively and a week before my dad died I was doing a tap dance for him. “Mei-Ling,” he would say softly, “you always smile and you will get everything you want in life.” My mom and my dad are my biggest heroes and role models. What I look for in a man is chivalry. That’s right, I want a real gentleman. I love a great smile, so good teeth are a deal breaker for me and I think every woman wants a man who she has something in common with– someone with a true connection. And hopefully that special someone will want children, because I do. My greatest dream is to be able to live my life with balance, being a successful business woman as well as a great wife and mother.
